There is no citizenship requirement in the state of Florida for divorce. However, I agree with those that say your immigration status could be affected. You should speak to an immigration attorney for advice.

There are many reasons why someone may want a divorce. People fall in and out of love all the time, and sometimes immigration status should be the second priority, especially when you are talking about your physical and/or emotion well being.

Good luck.

It depends on the state that you reside in. If you are in a community property state, certain rules will apply. If you live in an equitable property state, other rules will apply. You will need to consider how the house is titiled, whom is obligated to pay the mortgage (who sighned for it), and how the property settlement is structured. Usually, a house with a mortgage will be one of the larger items that will be negotiated during the property settlement. You will also need to consider any tax ramifications (cpaital gains) if you plan to sell the house and how to split the proceeds / taxes. If you quit claim deed the house, you will need to have the mortgage re-financed into the new owners name and with this market, appraisals / mortgages (20% equity required) are a lot more stringent. If you have negative equity, you will need to include that into the settlement as well. As you can see, different fact patterns will determine which approach will be best utilized. Consult an attorney and financial expert to determine your best course of action.

Divorce Feedback: The lack of understanding and knowing.

Some people don't know what love is, and believe that's what they have with some people. They rush into marriage and soon they realize their feelings aren't as strong as they thought they were.

I knew a girl who dated a boy for 2 months, and they were engaged (aged 16), then they broke up and it was like "Meh".

Divorce rate is on the rise because younger people typically in their 20's late teens, wed and soon fall-out-of love. Tis quiete depressing.

Don't forget that some people have "Marriages"of Convenience. where they marry someone for money, citizenship, help.

An estimated 28% of marriages of US citizens to foreigners were for the intention of gaining citizenship. And you need to include the marriages that are for money and help.

I think in this day and age less than 50% of marriages are for TRUE love.
